Blackwell ISD – One (1) 50 KW Wind Turbine Installation
The city Blackwell is located south of Sweetwater, in both Nolan and Coke Counties, in Texas. Blackwell ISD has one wind turbine on site, which is used to defray the pre-installation $8,000 per month cost of heating, cooling and lighting and to meet the schools’ other electric needs. The school installed its turbine on a monopole rather than a lattice tower and the turbine installation was constructed at the same time other new school facilities were being built.
"I think it's the thing of the future, especially with energy costs the way they are -- and energy is only going to go up," said James Bible, former superintendent of the 159-student district that serves parts of Nolan, Taylor and Coke counties.
